The Kelly Slater Project

A group of local veteran surfers from Cocoa Beach, Florida are proposing to erect a life-size sculpture of the world class athlete Kelly Slater.  The pose for this model was selected because it represents one of Kelly’s signature moves.

The sculpture would highlight the importance of his contributions to the community.  It would also create interest, serve as a focal point for visitors, and enrich Brevard County with a public art project.

Natasha Drazich designed and built a prototype. Her brother, Sam, is the project manager and engineer on the life-size statue. Construction started in spring 2008.

Ken Horton is producing a documentary. The Kelly Slater Project Documentary uses file photos of Kelly surfing in local events, the prototype presentation to City Commissioners, and Sam and Natasha at work. The aim is to raising funds for the project.  No tax dollars are used for the statue.

This documentary video runs 0:02:30.
